What Are Spider Veins?

Spider Veins are veins that are visible and often occur on the face and legs. They often look red, purple and blue. They twist and turn and are smaller than varicose veins. They are often found in women as compared to men and they tend to develop between the ages of 18 and 35. This condition is often goes unnoticed but it may cause discomfort and pain especially where the veins are in a twisted mass.
Spider veins occur in people who have a family history of the same condition, they are also prevalent in people who are obese and people who work jobs where they are on their feet a lot. They are also prevalent in people who get blood clots, those with conditions that apply plenty of pressure on the abdomen such as abdominal tumors. The condition also occurs as a result of hormones and often women on postmenopausal hormonal replacement and women on birth control pills are likely to develop the condition. Some women develop the condition as a result of hormones during puberty, pregnancy and menopause.
