What it is ?

An injection of botox contain a toxin known as botulinium. This toxin is used to stop muscle action. Botulinium is produced by a microbe that causes a form of food poisoning known as botulism.
Injections of botox are well known for the use in reduction of wrinkles on the face. But that is not all they are known for. They are also known for treatment of neck spasms also known as cervcial dystonia, too much sweating, a hyper active bladder and causes of cross eyes. In some people, botox can help alleviate chronic cases of migraines. Much as botox was the first ever drug to use the toxin botollinium, other newer products have emerged and they include Myobloc, Dysport and Xeomin. Each of these products is different from the other and are used in different doses.

Why is it effective ?

The toxin botulinium is well known for blocking specific chemical signals from reaching the muscles. The signals involved here are the ones that cause muscle to contract. Botox injections are therefore well known to relax muscles in the facial region. These are the muscles that are responsible for the cause of wrinkles. They also cause:

Lines that run from the corners of one’s eyes, also known as crow’s feet
Frown lines that appear in between a person’s eyebrows
The horizontal lines that show when one raises their eyebrows, also known as forehead furrows

Apart from improving and enhancing one’s general appearance, botox injections are also well known to treat issues related to bodily functions in Malaysia.  Here are some examples:

Neurological problems that include cerebral palsy. Such conditions cause the muscles to contract hereby causing one’s limbs to pull inwardly towards one’s center. Botox injections can effectively be used to relax such muscles.
The painful condition when one’s neck contracts involuntarily. This action causes the head to be twisted or causes the head to remain in position that is painful and uncomfortable. This condition is also known as cervical dystonia.
A lazy or crossed eye. This problem is attributed to an imbalance behind the muscles that position the eye in the right place. Botox injections can effectively deal with this problem.
A dysfunction in the bladder. Injections of botulinium help in the drastic reduction of incontinence in the urinary often caused by a bladder that is over active.
In the control of excessive sweating: This condition is also known as hyperhidrosis. When this condition strikes one’s sweat gland, there is excessive sweating even when the environment is not warm or when one is not even exercising. People with this condition have sweaty fluid falling off of their hands, literally.

What To Expect ?

Just before you undego the procedure
Most people are unable to withstand the discomfort caused by the injection. That said, one may need to numb the skin before the botox injection procedure. One has many options to choose from, including:

The use of pain killer injections,
The use of a cold spray – this process involves spraying the skin with a blast of extremely cold air. The skin is sprayed for duration of 10 seconds and the numbness caused by this process lasts for just a few seconds.
The use of a cream – the cream is a prescribed one and it is applied onto the surface where the botox injection will be used 60-90 minutes prior to the injection.

During the botox injection procedure
The doctor performing the procedure will inject little amounts of the toxin botulinium onto the muscle or skin area. The number of injections varies according to the individual’s specific needs. The injections are usually administered to the patient while they are in their doctor’s office.
After the botox injections procedure
You can resume your normal regimen right after you have undergone the botox procedure. That said, be careful not to massage or rub the area that has just undergone treatment. Doing this can cause the toxin to spread to another area.
