What It Is
Laser Peel, also referred to as Laser Skin Resurfacing, is the peeling of the upper layers of skin with precision through the use of focused energy to make your skin tighter, smoother and to give it a more even texture, tone and color.
Why Do Laser Peel?
If your skin has got scars, blotches, wrinkles, or lines due to sunburn or age, our laser peel services here in Malaysia can help you restore back your healthy and youthful looking skin by removing these blemishes. After the top layers of the skin have been removed by the Laser peel process, a new tighter and younger skin starts to form during healing process. The procedure can be combined with other cosmetic surgeries or it can be done alone.
What To Expect
Before going for the Laser Peel you need to prepare yourself: first, consult our dermatologist or our plastic surgeons to establish whether you are fit for the procedure. It is important for you to confide in our doctors if you often suffer from fever or blisters or cold sores around your mouth because, the Laser Peel procedure can cause skin breakouts if you have such a problem. If you have decided to go ahead with the procedure, our doctors will instruct you not to take any supplements and medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or vitamin E, 10 days prior to the surgery, because they can affect clotting. Moreover, avoid smoking for at least a fortnight before and after the laser peel procedure because, smoking can lengthen the healing process. For those who suffer from cold sores or fever blisters, our doctors may prescribe you some antibiotics and some antiviral medication before the procedure to hinder bacterial and viral infections.
Laser Peel is a short, outpatient procedure performed by our plastic surgeons or dermatologists. The doctor may treat your entire face or may treat various parts of your face individually such as the eyes, the forehead etc. For the whole face treatment, Laser Peel doctors are likely to give you an anesthesia but for small areas, the doctor may sedate you or numb the areas to be treated with an anesthesia. A full-face treatment may take up to 2 hours while treating parts of the face takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
The doctors will bandage the treated areas after the procedure. After 24 hours from the procedure, clean the treated areas four to five times each day. You will also need to apply some ointment such as petroleum jelly on the treated areas to prevent scabs from forming. You are also likely to experience swelling which is quite normal though our doctors may prescribe steroids to minimize swelling around the eyes. Sleeping on a big pillow will also ease the swelling. Other side affects you may experience include itching of the skin within 12 to 72 hours after the procedure and dryness of the skin within 5 to 7 days after the procedure.
Heeling takes place within 10 to 21 days. You can wear oil-free makeup to reduce redness after the skin heals. Also use a “broad-spectrum” sunscreen (with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 50, to shield your skin from the A and B ultraviolet rays because your skin will be much lighter for a while after surgery. Finally keep your skin well moisturized.
